Good morning everyone 🙂
Wow I can’t believe it is Thursday already… This week just flew by! I hope you all had a successful and happy one! And it is almost the weekend so I guess everyone is as excited as I am!!! 😀
So as you all probably know I have been trying to start some yoga for months and months and I finally made it a few weeks ago 🙂 I was ecstatic! So this week I tried a few things at home and as a newbie myself these are the 5 things that really helped me to try it at home 😉 (Since my very first experience of trying yoga at home landed me at the A&E at 5am you can see why I was hesitant 😉 )
1. Take a few classes
I think this one is VERY important! It is the only way to make sure you learn how to perform the poses in a correct way! It was a game changer for me when I started taking classes with @WeTrain and their amazing instructors showed me how to correctly (and most of all safely) perform each pose!
2. Find comfortable space
I know it sounds like a no brainer, but trust me i didn’t give it much thought in the beginning… Yoga is not only about stretching your body (your very sore body in case you are a runner after a long run LOL)… It is also about emptying your mind and calming your soul. A nice, tidy and quite space made a lot of difference to me!
3. Schedule it in
Like my work appointments, runs, meetings… yoga is not any different. You won’t feel like you need it, or even like doing it. But if it is there, in your calendar you will do it! And trust me you ‘ll feel so much better afterwards!
4. Morning, noon, evening…
When is a good time to practice yoga? The answer I came to is when you think you ‘ll need it the most! I usually schedule a yoga session after a long run to stretch, or after a meeting I know it’ll be long and demanding to clear my head or after a very long day in the lab to just relax a little… If you listen to your body it will tell you what it needs!
5. Sense of smell
Weird title right?? Well, it has been scientifically proven that your sense of smell has a huge impact on a person’s feelings and emotional state! People use essential oils for all kinds of things. Last time I practiced yoga at home a few days ago I gave it a go and I used a vanilla scented essential oil in my Hamswan oil diffuser . According to the Web vanilla essential oils have tons of benefits. Do I believe it?? Well I don’t know, the scientist in my kinda cringes with these things but at the end of the day, it felt nice, i got really relaxed and it definitely smelled amazing 😉
