Thanksgiving dinner & things in life…

Hello beautiful people ๐Ÿ˜€

It’s been a few days I know! But I swear since @mymamus and I came back from Greece it has been totally crazy for one reason or the other. So what’s up lately? Not anything too exciting I admit. More like me buried under tons of data analysis for an upcoming presentation, filling out reports and working like usual… As for fitness well I admit to NOTHING!

After the marathon both my body and mind needed a break. I felt totally burnt out, so I have not run/worked out in about 2 weeks (and change…) and yo know what? I am OK with that! I listened to my body and waited till it felt rested enough to start being active again. And I think right about now is the time! Tuesday was the first time in weeks that I woke up and felt rested! So yes, we are good!

I am slowly getting into it again… Eating mindfully and start being more active! Tonight will be the first time I do a weight session after I don’t even know how long ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ totally can’t wait!!!

So, what about Thanksgiving?!?!?! Some of you might have gotten a glimpse of photos on FB that might need an explantion LOL! like this one…

World meet our new family addition Sir Pickleton (of Tooting) the 3rd ๐Ÿ™‚ Isn’t he the cutest ?!?!?!LOL!! He wasn’t suppose to stay but life being funny and all he ended up staying with us for good! He is the perfect cuddling machine hahaha! (do note @mymaus face as he is trying to photobomb my photo … priceless)

Oh and maybe this one?

Yes once every blue moon I turn into a domesticated housewife from the ’60s! And totally loving it โค

We also had the best company!! Our friends Katalin, and Sabine and Glenn (my friend Corey’s hubby) along with mr.Ripley of course who stole the spotlight immediately! Isn’t he the cutest??

And what about food, you shall ask….and you shall receive ๐Ÿ˜‰

We started with some (homemade) orange cranberry bellinis – I cant believe I actually managed a 3 coloured cocktail!!! – jaw dropped –

And a cheese platter andย nibbles…

Then we had mushroom and chestnut creamy soup – Yum! The recipe was a courtesy of @mymamus’s mum – Thank you @taleoftworuns_M&M โค

For main I used this turkey recipeย  with bourbon and apples stuffed with oranges, celery and cranberries. SUCCESS!

For side dishes we had creamy Brussel sprouts with bacon and sweet potato mush topped with caramelised pecans ๐Ÿ˜€ I wasn’t very good at taking photos and cooking at the same time …

Along with cranberry chutney and homemade traditional Greek milk pie for dessert.

Of course, when you live in a small apartment and you are trying to cook a big turkey you NEED to be creative… So when the recipe called for a “completely submerge to the marinade” turkey well… we kinda had to improvise…

Yes that is the mop bucket containing the turkey in my fridge… Yes it is a new bucket that i haven’t ever used for its actual use…. Yes I did wash it VERY well before using it and YES I did lined it up with a clean plastic bag before I put anything in it LOL! So technically the bucket was just a support to the overflowing plastic bag…

Also note how the aluminium baking tray is all curled up at the sides…well that can happen when your over is too small for you turkey hahahaha!!! Oh well… logistics…

All and all it was an awesome day, spent with wonderful people and both @mymamus and I are thankful for that ๐Ÿ™‚

Athens Marathon โ€“ Training log Week #17 & Halloween and stuff …

Hi everyone ๐Ÿ™‚

So this week things have started to slow down a bit with only 2 weeks left for my marathon… – see no freak out there ๐Ÿ™‚

Tuesday: MENTAL HEALTH RUN ๐Ÿ™‚ I run back home from work – 6.2 miles. I have no clue my time or pace since I went totally watch-less and with my favourite music blasting in my ears!

Thursday: 3.2 miles.

Sunday: 3.2 miles Halloween trick or treat race ๐Ÿ™‚ – see all the awesome photos below ๐Ÿ™‚

Weekly mileage: 12.6

Total mileage:ย 320.4

Weekly cross-training session: 0

Now, that training recap is out of the way… Let’s talk weekend shenanigans, shall we??

How was your weekend ?

Mine started in an awesome way! My buddy Corey and I run a trick or treat run at Richmond park !!! A bit of a last minute decision but I am really REALLY happy we did itย – surpassingly since as many of you know i am really not that interested in Halloween! But I know that Corey totally loves it and when I got the passes to this race I didn’t even blinked twice ๐Ÿ˜‰

So we did some costume shopping on Saturday morning and decided to go as Devil (me) vs. Angel (her) โค

First thing we both did once we got back home was of course to text to each other photos of our full costumes lol!

Turns out the race was amazing – had different scary get ups in every mile marker – and Richmond park is beautiful! Also the weather was so appropriate for Halloween… All foggy but not cold ๐Ÿ™‚

And this was the result ๐Ÿ™‚

The race was so much and at the end you had to stick your hand in this green … thingy … grab a coin and the get your medal! Which by the way, GLOWS IN THE DARK!! How cool is that!?!?

But I have to admit, that Corey and I were totally not the best costume of the day! But Corey’s dog, mr.Ripley of Essex stole all the lights and attention in his adorable banana split costume ๐Ÿ™‚ โค

I hope you all have a great week! Mine didn’t start off on a great note – I hate it when equipment decides to not work…grrr – but I am positive and not getting upset over it – yet…. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Pumpkins here, pumpkins there, PUMPKINS everywhere…. & some random facts :)

Ok, let’s get something out of the way first…

I LOVE PUMPKINS! – my friend Corey will probably cringe when she ‘ll read this post Since she is not a huge fan LOL!

I don’t really care about Halloween, and this is why tomorrow’s post will probably surprise many of you…so stay tuned! ๐Ÿ˜‰ But I am a sucker for anything about fall, thanksgivings (and Christmas but that’s “another-post-on-its-own” kinda topic…)

So, of course you can imagine my excitement when going to the grocery store a few days ago..they had PUMPKINS!! And a lots of them, in all shapes and sizes! So here are a few photos of our pumpkin-infested small apartment ๐Ÿ˜‰

Totally love my new fall coffee table centre piece ๐Ÿ™‚

And this totally cute pumpkin candle holder!

Have you guys seen the new like/haha/angry etc FB emoticons!?!?!? They are the cutest…

So, what else has been going on lately? Well I got a few random facts to share with you ๐Ÿ™‚

A few days ago I decided to kinda “dress up” to work – that is a very VERY rare occurrence…Since I got so many amazing clothes and dresses at a clothes swap I went to about a month ago…

Yes, i know… I was as tired as I looked and maybe a little more. But hey, I am wearing a dress! :O

My brother sent me this photo the other day! This is my grandma, my mum’s mum. Believe it or not this woman is 78 years old (whoops… don’t tell her i said that) and she has never – EVER- dyed her hair… We call her “the General” since there is no way to not do as she tells you to… She is healthy and smart and an amazing lady that i ve always looked up to! screen-shot-2016-10-29-at-14-12-08

Seeing my family is one of the things I am totally looking forward to for when I get back in a few days to run my marathon!

In my run two days ago I saw a fox ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s a pretty common thing here, they are like stray dogs/cats. Yes, in the city !! She was very pretty and quite tame. That’s one failed attempt of me to take a photo of her – I know…can’t see anything either!

Screen Shot 2016-10-29 at 14.26.17.png

Many many thanks to my dear friend Kat for my early Christmas present!! Totally in love with my new ankle boots!!! โค โค

Oh and I finally made a Pinterest favourite a few nights ago! You can not imagine my excitement when I found a squash in the grocery store!! Spaghetti squash with turkey minced in red sauce and melted cheese on top! It was a huge success!!

So this is all for now, I am off for a short run now and I’ll share my new favourite salad recipe with you guys later today ๐Ÿ™‚

Have an awesome Saturday!

What does a DECATHLON, a Sunday Roast & a Penguin have in common?!?!?!

Hi there people ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope you had an awesome weekend!!!

We had a blast ๐Ÿ˜€ – apart from the fact that I still have the nastiest cough ever… ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

So, Saturday after I went into work for a few hours to check on a few things, I have to admit I spent the restย of my day on the couch (equivalent to my bed since we have some friends over and we have happily given away our bed ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) watching House on Netflix and napping and eating Chinese take away ๐Ÿ™‚ Yes, THAT productive lol! But I needed the rest more than I knew since I still felt quite a bit under the weather…

As for Sunday… well it was AWESOME!!!

@mymamusย and I, met up with Corey and he husband Glen to have funย  compete ๐Ÿ˜‰ at ย a really coolย event at Decathlon in Canada water! Totally โค this photo of the four of us ๐Ÿ˜‰

Screen Shot 2016-10-17 at 21.21.29.png

I was so excited to do this!! Apart from the fact that it was so much fun, it is the first eventย @mymamus and I did together ๐Ÿ™‚

So what was it all about?

10 stations

10 decathletes

1 minute per stationย

Let the best man win ๐Ÿ˜‰ – or woman (hint, hint, hint)

(Since we were all competing that means my official photographer aka @mymamus didn’t take that many photos this time… but the officials are coming out soon ๐Ÿ™‚ )

Power bike – top resistance… now that was hard! I managed 57 meters in minute.

Mini golf. I ‘ve never done that before and managed 2 out of 20 in a hole – but it was still really fun!

Hula Hoop for 1 minute! Now that one, I totally smashed ๐Ÿ™‚

Pop up tent! Have I mentioned how much I hate those things??? They are sooooo disobedient lol!!! But it did it under a minute ๐Ÿ™‚

Boot lace up! Those hiking boots were no joke.

Put on a wetsuit, flippers and a mask in under a minute… well I think it took me a little more than a minute cause I couldn’t stop laughing…

boxing pad punches – I managed 210 punches in a minute, my arms were on fire but I have to admit it made me realize I have kinda missed boxing a little. Oh yes I use to box have I mentioned that?!?! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Even though my form on this photo makes me cringe ๐Ÿ˜‰

Darts! – not too bad but still not great. I think I need a beer or two to be good at that ๐Ÿ˜‰

Basketball – I managed to score 4 shots… Out of… well let’s not talk about it. I am not short or anything ๐Ÿ˜› maybe a little vertically challenged LOL As for the photo, yes I am totally looking like “where the heck did this ball bounced off to?!?!”

Put on high visibility clothes/gloves/hats in 30 seconds and then sprint 100 yards for another 30 – it’s a miracle i didnt fell on my face lol ๐Ÿ˜›

The day was awesome, the weather was great, and I got to do all these fun things with good friends and my special other half ๐Ÿ™‚

Also, at the end, we all got a ยฃ10 gift card each AND medals and there was one winner…. Can you guess who that was?? Yup, that’s right! This great gal here ๐Ÿ˜‰ Totally nailed it girl!!!

After that I have to admit we were pretty tired (and hungry…) and we met up with our very good friend Kat and her mum who was visiting from Austria along with a friend ๐Ÿ™‚ And we all head to an (amazing) local pub for dinner and a beer ๐Ÿ˜‰ The food took a while and as you can see Piroska and I were not happy but my Sunday roast was totally worth it!!

AND I got THE BEST PRESENT EVER !!!! Thank you soooooo much mama-Piri ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ™‚ โค I love this woman!!!!

This little penguin is ALL MINE – my hand knitted name on it kinda gives it away ๐Ÿ˜‰

I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend ๐Ÿ™‚ Spent it getting some much needed rest surrounded with some of my favourite people and having an amazing time! Needless to say the moment we got home and I hit the pillow I was plain dead asleep…. but feeling #grateful #loved #full ๐Ÿ˜€

How was your weekend?? I would love to hear all about!!!

PS: Thank you Decathlon for inviting me to thisย fun event! Can’t wait for next year when hopefully I ‘ll be the one with the trophy – watch outย Corey girl ๐Ÿ˜‰ hahaha!

Why I’ve been MIA, the London marathon ballot & the GIVEAWAY winner!

Hi there ๐Ÿ™‚

yup, it’s been a while… two weeks. I really don’t think I have ever stayed away from my blog for such a long time. Saying that life took over would be a total understatement! So grab a cup of coffee and let’s catch up… what do you do when life is running out of control? well, you kinda run along playing catch up I guess!

So what has happened the past two weeks… well as you ‘ve probably remembering me saying the past two weeks were extremely crucial for my experiments. And that is what I did… work, work, work and then work some more. Also – with some good timing and a side of luck – I tapered for my half marathon last week. Or at least this was the excuse I used to myself for only running a 5km the whole week… The outcome? Well I got both bad and good news…

I went from this —>

to this —>

and then this –>

in about 2 days ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

So let’s see…

The good news: my experiment looks like it’s working ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ – not totally out of the woods yet but hopefully will be by mid next week!! Also got a new PB for my royal parks half marathon!! 1:59:35ย ๐Ÿ˜€ Yup, I know cut it pretty close! I swear I haven’t sprint like that before. EVER…. I felt like my life depended on it!

The bad news: I got the nastiest (is that even a word?@?@) upper respiratory infection again… the even worse news? I had to work through it ๐Ÿ˜ฆ plus the weekend…. I feel totally crappy, weak, tired but most of all worried!! Missed a full week of marathon training and I am terrified!

I ‘m feeling a little better today and tomorrow I will attended an awesome event at Decathlon ๐Ÿ˜‰ more to come soon ! So let’s hope that I am indeed getting better!

Ok, let’s move on to other news ๐Ÿ™‚

London marathon ballot ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Maybe next year…. I did get a really cool running sweater out of it though and I wore it today to work – perks of being a scientist, no dress code lol – and I saw another lady wearing it on the subway ๐Ÿ™‚ we smiled and secretly high fived each other ๐Ÿ™‚

The GIVEAWAY winner for this incredible book that I totally loved!

(drum roll sound………………………. ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

Congratulations Gabrielle ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ Email me your address at !!

As for work, well my afternoons look a lot like this —>

along with piles of tissues, cough syrup, chamomile tea and pills…. oh the fun!

I really believe that about 4 days ago my body was like “oh, you can keep running around like a mad woman it’s totally cool. I will just take a moment…” and that was it…

Finally here are some random photos from the past two weeks ๐Ÿ™‚

If I look in pain in some of them it is because I was…the last 1000m was incredibly hard! Also what do you think of @mymamus supporting #teamspinal??? (yes, he was carrying the banner ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

This cool event at sweaty betty called hip hop yoga from TAPPED water ๐Ÿ™‚ Literally felt like bliss after 5 straight days of my sitting in a chair in a small cold room performing experiments… so relaxing ….

oh and a reminder! Our virtual 5km run is ON this month! Sigh up and get your awesome blink running along with Penny plain fit and me ๐Ÿ™‚

So that’s what I have been up to the past few days… what about you people?? any new ย PBs I might have missed or awesome news to share??

Have a great weekend!

Athens Marathon โ€“ Training log Week #14

Hi everyone ๐Ÿ™‚

How was your week? I know I have been very silent this past week but I am not even going to mention how busy I have been! The next two weeks will be super crucial for my research and I needed to make sure i had all I need and that everything was in place! I am quite anxious about it but I have a good feeling – and great people to work with ๐Ÿ˜‰

So how did my week went? Slow, like really slow… After my (very first ever) 20 miler the week before I took 2 days off to recover, mostly mentally lol ๐Ÿ˜› ! But then work came into high gear so I had my first run of the week on Wednesday… Yeah I know…

Wednesday: 5k tempo run – unfortunatelly ย little slower than what I would ‘ve liked but at least I got it done even though I was totally not feeling it and oh so tired! Also have i mentions how much I love fall?? Look at this beauty!

Saturday: Speed work – 1km w/u, 4×800 , 1.5km cool down. Totally love these treadmills at the Castle centre (review coming this week stay tuned!!!) were you can visually “see” yourself going around the track!

Sunday: Long run – 15 miles (around 25km) in about 2:20 ish! Not too shabby ๐Ÿ˜‰ That was a good one! I did need a good run since my last too long runs were – mentally – very challenging! And yesterday was a win! ๐Ÿ™‚

That was my face afterwards ๐Ÿ˜‰

As for the rest of my weekend it was pretty chilled ๐Ÿ˜€

Spent Saturday with my good friend Jen celebrating her birthday with a visit to the aquarium (better photos coming soon ๐Ÿ˜‰ ), a girlie lunch and chocolate cake after dinner!

I cleaned up pretty nicely i believe ๐Ÿ˜‰

Sunday after my run I went by the lab to make sure everything was all good for the week and got to hang out with my friend Kat for a while afterwards. So all and all a good weekend ๐Ÿ˜€

Also I am super excited to run the Royal Parks half marathon this Sunday! I am aiming for a sub – 2hours – missed it for 6 minutes last time – so wish me luck ๐Ÿ™‚

Weekly mileage: 22.2

Total mileage: 282.0

Weekly cross-training session: 1 (if you count the amount of carrying and up and down the stairs i had to do on Friday ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

Hope you all have an amazing week!!๐Ÿ™‚

Athens Marathon โ€“ Training log Week #12

Is this for real?!?! Less than 8 weeks to go ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ Whoo hoo!!

It has been such an emotional roller coaster… One day i feel all confident and good to go and the next day…let’s not even talk about. Hopefully I’ll feel more confident than not soon. So let’s see how this training week went down. I am quite happy about it actually ๐Ÿ™‚

Monday: OFF. It’s weird how I’d always wanted to workout/run on Mondays, but it almost always ends up being a day off LOL. I might just have to accept it ๐Ÿ˜‰ Mondays are as good of a day as any…

Tuesday: 6:15am HIIT workout in park with Stevie from WeTrain.

Screen Shot 2016-09-19 at 07.58.02.png

Wednesday: Kicking butt doing speed work at the Castle (everyone active) gym with Corey. 5x1000m RI 3:00 smashed ๐Ÿ™‚

Screen Shot 2016-09-19 at 07.58.57.png

Thursday: 3.2 speedy miles run and 1 hour of my favourite Barrรจ class with Hilary from WeTRAIN.

Friday: 16 miles (27km) long run in the evening after work. Unfortunately I have no idea what my pace was since I didn’t have my Garmin with me.

Saturday: OFF

Sunday: the funniest 10km I ‘ve ever had in my life!! My first obstacle race with Rough Runner ๐Ÿ™‚ It was awesome!!! Thanks a million Corey for pushing me to do it ๐Ÿ˜‰ Full race recap coming up veeeery soon!

Weekly mileage: 24.2

Total mileage: 237.5

Weekly cross-training session: 2

Hope you all have an amazing week!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Athens Marathon โ€“ Training log Week #11 & my FIRST trail run!

Hi there beautiful people ๐Ÿ™‚

I can not believe this was already week 11 of marathon prep gone… I am at the point where, I am quite happy with how its going but mentally I am a bit of a wreck. I really -REALLY- want this 4:00:00 but i keep doubting myself these days…

Oh well, I guess all I can do is do my very best, give the race my 100% and see what happens. So how this past week went down?

Monday: Did a Barrรจ class with Hillary and WeTrain. Seriously EVERY time I get to this class I have a blast! Hillary is awesome and the class “burns” so good ๐Ÿ˜‰

Tuesday: Had a date with the TRX and Stevie from WeTrainย in the park at 6:15am for a morning workout. Now THIS is what i call “proper wake up call” ๐Ÿ˜‰

Wednesday: Corey and I decided to hit the hills – I don’t know who of the two of us comes up with those brilliant ideas but sometimes I am not sure they are that brilliant…. So I did an easy 3 miles ย run, 5x500m (approximately) hill repeats at full effort, and about 1.2 miles cool down –> 6.2 miles total.

Going up the hill…..

Thursday: Yet another Barrรจ class. Yup, you guessed right… we can’t get enough of being in pain while pretending we can graciously do ballet ๐Ÿ˜›

Friday: Now this is a big one for me! MY LONGEST LONG (is that even a sentence??? LOL) RUN E-V-E-R!! 16 miles aka 27km…. I can not believe i actually made it! And the best part? Till about mile 11 I felt just fine! After that yeah I did start to feel it quite a bit! Couldn’t have done it without my buddy Corey ๐Ÿ˜€ I think we did an excellent job of supporting each other!

The plan –>

The execution (we called it “the London running tour”) –>

The obligatory feet selfie –>

The “how-a-human-looks-like-after-27km” obligatory selfie #2 –>

The post run snack –>

Oh and did I mention that all the above took place before 9:30am?? And that crazy me went straight to work afterwards?? Yes ๐Ÿ˜€

Saturday: Another first for me! MY VERY FIRST TRAIL RUN! It was only 7km (i didnt want to push it after my long run) but it was totally worth it! Waking up at 5:30am and getting on a bus for two hours to get to (somewhere around) Kent it was a small price to pay if you get to run in those beautiful trails. It was a perfect route for a newbie like myself with a good mix of both road and trails. I m hooked and I’d totally do it again! Thank you Race Mavericksย totally โค my first trail running experience.

The bling was AMAZING!! The best medal I ‘ve earned so far!

Screen Shot 2016-09-12 at 07.56.33.png

The views. No words necessary.

And buddies ๐Ÿ™‚ Old, like my friend Mollie (middle) from PT Mollieย , and new like my crazy Welsh friend Angharad (right) ๐Ÿ™‚

Sunday: Much needed day OFF! Had a coffee date with my special man and then my very first clothes’ swap with some awesome ladies! This was sooooo much fun!!!! You will not believe the amount of great cute clothes i got!!

Weekly mileage: 27.2

Total mileage: 213.3

Weekly cross-training session: 3

Yes this was one crazy busy week. And have another one coming! Somehow (thanks Corey ๐Ÿ˜‰ !!) I’ve managed to have a race every weekend for the past 3 weeks, and next weekend will be no different. I have gone totally mad and decided to do an obstacle 10km race with Rough Runner. Not sure what was I thinking when I said yes to that one…. Hope I’ll make it out in one piece lol!

Have an awesome week everyone!! Let me know how your weekend was. Any new bling/race updates to share?

Athens Marathon โ€“ Training log Week #10 & an AMAZING weekend

Hello everyone ๐Ÿ˜€ Hope all you beautiful people are having an amazing week so far!

Well I know it’s not Monday but let’s pretend it is for a second so I can tell you all about my marathon training and awesome past weekend since I was so super busy at work that I didn’t manage to write up the post yesterday…

So training wise I have to admit it was a (very…VERY) slow week.

I did a 5km run around my park on Wednesday and a quick 6km at the Castleย (full review coming soon!) ย on Thursday. And a (SERIOUSLY SPEEDY for me) 10km on Sunday Yup, and that was all for last week.

I totally โค this selfie where my beloved piggy shamelessly decided to photbomb ๐Ÿ˜‰ hahahaha!

Screen Shot 2016-09-06 at 08.43.51.png

Weekly mileage: 13ย

Total mileage:ย 186.1

Weekly cross-training session: 0

Now, why didn’t I do more? Well first of all I was super busy at work, my running buddy was on her cruise and I was flat out tired nearly burned out… After the past three weeks where I had events back to back and super tough training I think my body just said “hey, you know what? That’s enough I am on a strike for 2-3 days” ๐Ÿ˜‰ LOL

Well that worked out perfectly since I had an amazing conference to attend Friday and Saturday. The International Spinal Research Trust Network meeting was AWESOME! I got to listen to all those incredible scientists in my filed presenting their amazing work and I also got to meet some of them!

I was presenting a poster with my own work and got back some really cool reviews ๐Ÿ˜€ #majorexcitement ๐Ÿ˜‰

Presenting my poster to a fellow scientist ๐Ÿ™‚ย

And this —> is how all of my Friday and most of my Saturday looked like! Totally loved it!

Screen Shot 2016-09-06 at 08.29.50

And on Sunday I went form all the research to all the running ๐Ÿ™‚

Got the chance to run a 10km in this INCREDIBLE event: Parallel London.ย Parallel London is the first integrated event where able-bodied individual can run along people with disabilities and injuries ๐Ÿ™‚ EVERYTHING is allowed! Push chairs, strollers, wheel chairs, any sort of bike for any sort of disability, crutches and you name it…

It was purely AMAZING! I have never seen so much dedication and perseverance! Here are some of the photos from the race and our awesome #Teamspinal ๐Ÿ™‚

Screen Shot 2016-09-06 at 08.29.44

And finally (left the best news last!), piggies and I HAVE A NEW PB for the 10km!! I could not believe it! It was the perfect race. Good weather, not sunny, a little windy, no major hills in the course…. Perfect!

Decathlon 5km Running Series

Hello people ๐Ÿ˜€

Hope you are off to a great start this week!

So as promised, this is what happen last Sunday morning on the Decathlon 5km running series at Surrey Quays…

Having had a very active (and busy week) and having done my 12 miles longย run on Friday, when I decided to join my friend Coreyย for a 5km we both thought “Ok, we’ll take it easy…” and THIS was the exact conversation that went on the day before the race after our yoga class …

Screen Shot 2016-08-23 at 11.08.48.png

So with that in mind we arrived at Canada water station with a little less than an hour to spare before the race. We went there looking like the first picture and then 15 minutes later we were all dressed up in our bright (very nice and breathable) yellow Decathlon race t-shirts and ready to roll!!!! (I don’t know many people who get THAT excited to wake up at 7:30am on a Sunday to go an hour away to run twice around a park LOL but these are runners for you… ๐Ÿ˜‰ We are a bizarre breed!)

I have to admit, I LOVEDย the race! First of all it was totally free, well-organised, not massive queues and very helpful staff. Totally loved the (free) snack and fuelling table i think every race should have one!

There was a good amount of people of all ages – i love seeing families running together! Mums with toddlers and dads pushing strollers, I always think it is super cute.

Before the start of the race we all gathered to the start line and had a brief warm up session, then counted down from 5 and then we were off…

Screen Shot 2016-08-22 at 06.49.21

Bright yellow and pink shirts flooded Southwark park! What a great atmosphere! And of course both Corey and myself got so carried away that we totally forgot about our “having fun deal”…

Screen Shot 2016-08-22 at 06.45.13

We both run a sub 25 minutes (even though I am not quite sure that was an exact 5km… so this one doesn’t go on my PB list just yet!) and really pushed it at the end sprinting to the finish line.

After the race we walked to the store to pick up our goodie bags -included power bars and drinks,ย and just have a look around! Well I have to tell you I was Screen Shot 2016-08-23 at 11.23.59.pngSHOCKED!! I can not believe I was in this country for 10 whole months and never knew about this store! Where do I start? The amount of sports stuff and variety – HUGE (from running to climbing and from canoeing to paddle boarding)! The people – superย friendly AND knowledgable! Prices?? I wont even mention it! Total bargains compared to prices I have seen around town in other places!

I am so going back there soon! They have all you might need for cycling and as you all remember I do need a new tire.. ๐Ÿ˜‰

So all and all it was a great day with a lot of fun ๐Ÿ™‚ I totally recommend it to any of my UK friends. They have a few more races coming up in different locations around the country so look it up here and definitely register!

We might not have taken it easy as promised but we still pushed each other to the best of our abilities. I am grateful to have found such awesome people to run/workout with as it isn’t so easy in a very busy and crowded city like London!
